A man who was to enter a plea to a charge of theft of a huia bird when he appeared in Dannevirke District Court on Friday was unable to do so.
When Dean Bradley Mudgway appeared in court a month ago he was charged with the theft of the Dannevirke Gallery of History s prized female huia, valued at over $1000, which disappeared in July.

American Legion Post 163 will be sponsoring students to attend Texas Boys State in Austin, an educational program of government instruction for those in high school.
Texas Boys State is a participatory program where each student becomes a part of the operation of his city, county and state government. Participants are exposed to the rights and privileges, duties and the responsibilities of a franchised citizen. The training is objective and practical, with city, county and state governments operated by the students elected to the various offices.
Post 163 will be contacting high schools schools in the area for nominations.

As the Senate votes on changes to the $1.9 trillion relief package s contents, the gaps between the third stimulus check and the first and second payments are finally revealed. Changes on who is qualified for a stimulus check also included lowering the salary cap for a third payment, which is now set at $1,400 per individual, as per CNET.

But last week, American Airlines started dropping the fare each day. First it was $117 one-way, then $111, then $100. Right now, American is charging $97 one-way to fly from Anchorage to either LaGuardia or JFK. The return trip is $98 one-way. Tickets are available between May 6 and Oct. 5. Delta has matched the fare.
